English Villages in Korea using Education Buses
English villages in Korea have grown in popularity and usefulness for Korean students seeking vivid and interactive experiences with native speakers who are teaching English in Korea.
In one such case, the ‘Visiting English Experience Class-Fun English Bus’ is now being operated by Daegu Gyeongbuk English Village in 2022, which will visit 60 small elementary schools in 23 cities and counties in Gyeongsangbuk-do (Gyeongbuk Province) this year.
The bus visited Cheongha Elementary School near Wolpo Beach in Pohang on the 8th. Kim Gyu-hyeon (5 years old), who participated in the English experience class on this day, said, “It was amazing to meet a native speaker and speak English in person. I hope the fun English experience class will come again next time.”
The 45-seat Fun English Bus has space for various English experience activities instead of chairs. On this bus, four people, including a native English teacher and a Korean coordinator from Daegu-Gyeongbuk English Village, conduct English experience classes for one day, alternating between buses and classrooms for 2 hours each in the morning and afternoon at the visiting school.
On the bus, unique among English villages in Korea, you can find Talent Zone (introduction to various occupations, learning English songs), Culture Zone (Exploring the geography, culture, food, clothing, and housing of various countries around the world), Project Zone (involving project-based classes in a space to operate four experience programs including solar system principles, new and renewable energy exploration activities, etc) and Market Zone (to simulate commerce like buying and selling).
In the classroom, communication activities by subject, such as animals, family, and country, presentation of hobbies and hopes for the future, and simple physical education are conducted so that students can learn English in a fun way and learn about various cultures through experiences.
